VIEW OF BENJAMIN REBER'S FARM by Charles C. Hofmann (American 1820-1882), National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
"One of three artists called "Almshouse Painters," Charles Hofmann did minutely detailed views of these types of Pennsylvania institutions, the only types of homes he appears to have had. Minimal information has been found about him except for paupers' registers listing "intemperance" as the cause for his poverty. His skill in detailing and appearance of the word lithograph in one of his works suggest training in graphics.
He was born in Germany, but the exact place remains unknown.
I stock the line of Aaron Ashley Fine Arts and Hedgerow Folk Art. In addition to thousands of prints from most major Art Publishers.
If you see shadows of letters on the picture here please be assured they are not on the print, they are just on these jpg's.
