THE ART LESSON by Carl Wilhem-Trautschold (Ger., 1815-1877)
Carl Wilhem Trautschold was born in Berlin, Germany in 1815. He was a successful and well-known portrait painter and lithographer who achieved success early in his career. In his teens, he was invited to participate in the prestigious Dusseldorf Exhibitions where he continued to show for many years. He studied and practiced the art of lithography in Liverpool, England from 1847 - 1850. Trautschold then returned to his native Germany and settled in Munich where he died in 1877. His works are currently in some of the most prestigious museums in the world including the National Portrait Gallery in London.
