PICNIC BY THE LAKE by Thomas P Rossiter (American 1817-1871) Kenneth Lux Gallery, N.Y.C.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Thomas Rossiter began his career as a portrait artist, opening his studio in New Haven in 1838, and the next year in Troy, New York. In 1840, he went to Europe with Asher Durand, John Kensett, and John Casilear and also went to Rome with Thomas Cole. The following year he settled in New York and shared a studio with Kensett and Louis Lang.
In addition to portraits, he also did religious and historical paintings.
