OUTSIDE THE INN by Heywood Hardy (English 1843-1933)
Heywood Hardy was born in Chichester in 1843. He was the son of the artist James Hardy Sr. (1801-79) and brother of James Hardy Jr. (1832-89). He was a painter and watercolourist of animals, sporting subjects and genre scenes.
The artist studied in Bristol and settled in London in 1870 where he studied at many galleries including the Royal Academy. He exhibited at the British Institute, Royal Academy, Society of British Artists, Old watercolour Society, Grosvenor Gallery and the National Gallery. He was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1880.
The artist collaborated with Frank Walton, and among his many patrons were the Sitwells of Renishaw.
