Family Portrait by Edmund Henry Osthaus (Ger., 1859-1928). Stair-Murdock,N.Y.C.
Edmund Osthaus studied at the Dusseldorf Academy until 1882, having been born in Hildesheim, Germany.
He moved to the United States from Germany in 1883 to teach and become Director of the Toledo Academy of Fine Arts. After leaving teaching, he followed dog shows and sporting events and became one of the most noted painters of dog portraits including field trial champion pointers and setters.
In 1911, he established a studio in Los Angeles and remained based there
