Chuks Okoye was born in Nigeria and came to USA in 1982. He began his education at the University of Nigeria at Nsukka, where he studied sculpture and African Iconography. Continuing his studies in the United States, Chuks obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1987. He majored in Product Design, with a minor in Painting. After a brief career working as a designer, he opened his own business combining fine art, product design and picture framing. Okoye has chosen African American art as his primary form of artistic expression. His mediums include pencil, pastel, oil and acrylic. Chuks paintings are distinctive with a combination of realism and abstraction, using African beads and woven silk/rayon thread to make symbols and designs. On canvas this technique creates a three dimensional effect. His art is truly representative of positive images that give rise to motivation and hope in ALL people. In fact Chucks considers himself a pioneer in a new style of painting he calls Abstract-realism. While living in Dallas, he participated in numerous art exhibitions inclusive of the Kinfolk's, Ramses and African Origin of Civilization; Atlantas National Black Arts Festival and more. His active involvement in the art community has earned him countless awards around the country and abroad. Chuks original works have been collected by several celebrities, and have been distributed to galleries, schools, churches and private collections throughout the United States and overseas. Chuks Okoye currently lives in a suburb of Atlanta Georgia
